Hey this week on Spotlight on Alberni I’m at 8113 Faber Rd to tac to Nile verbrugge to talk to him about his business, The Salty Woodsman. 

Nile thanks for welcoming us to your business, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Thanks for coming. I was born and raised in Port Alberni, grew up just down the road and i’ve done a lot of logging, fishing, concrete finishing. I’ve been to Fort McMurray and back before my injury and I love this town.

Tell us the origin story of The Salty Woodsman.

So basically my brother went prawn fishing and I thought, why not buy some spot prawns off of him and make some sales, make a little bit of extra cash and so I started basically with a deep freezer, upgraded to a stand up deep freezer, the I got a two door freezer, now here I am. You know, a three door freezer and a store of Island made, basically BC made goods. 

And in the time we’ve been here, there’s been tons of customers come through. Tell us who your customers are and where they come from.

I’ve got a lot of local customers. I’m trying to build a customer base and get to know people and tourists are starting to come in now that I’m getting the online presence happening and it’s going really well. 

I think the big question is, we want to know what you sell in the shop.

My main thing is when I’m selling seafood. I’ve got hot sauces, I’m a bit of a hot sauce consesours, coffee, tea, spices, I’ve gotten lots of rocks, gems, crystals, my wifes’ right into those. I’ve got face creams, cleaners, I’ve got a lot of candles and soaps, jus a lot of different Island made and BC made goods. 

So the last question is tell us where you’re located and what are your hours.

We are at 8113 Faber Rd, just off the highway and my house are 12pm to 7 pm Wednesday - Sunday (summer hours).
