Discover Alberni Episode 17 - Canal Beach
Canal Waterfront Park, also known as Canal Beach, is a newer seaside park space in Port Alberni. Located on the far end of residential South Alberni, this park is usually quieter compared to many others in the city. When you get to the park you can marvel at the artistic mural, vibrant greenery, and the ocean waves lapping at your feet.
The park is a bit out of the way, so it is generally more peaceful than other parks in town. It contains a large beach, plenty of green space, and even a few amenities. There is a beach, a volleyball court, a fire pit, gazebo, ample free parking, and a portable washroom.
Visitors come to this park for the panoramic views of the Alberni Inlet, to watch fishing boats travel up and down, and to sit in awe at the beautiful sunset over Arbutus Ridge. It has also been the preferred site for the chilly polar bear swim each January 1st!
In the summer months, visitors enjoy packing a picnic or bringing a coffee down to the water. This is to take advantage of the refreshing breeze that travels up the inlet each evening. If you are looking for a place near the water to meditate, take a few moments for yourself, play a casual game of volleyball, or hang out with friends, then Canal Waterfront Park might be the place for you. It is peaceful, quiet, and a wonderful addition to Port Alberni.
