Alberni Valley: Things to Do in January

Winter is here in the Alberni Valley and with the shorter days upon us, we can gather, reflect, and enjoy some upcoming events represented in the valley. Grab a hockey game, connect with your spiritual self, and have a few laughs at a comedy show. Our list may be smaller this month, but it packs a punch in entertainment. Let’s dive right in!

Mass - Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

Knit Nights at the Museum!

  • When: January 4, 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Friday Night Magic Commander (Magic: The Gathering)

Do you enjoy strategic card games? Why not try Magic: The Gathering for a fantastical spin and an opportunity to try something new? Bulldogs Hockey

Port Alberni Farmers’ Market

  • When: Every Saturday, 9 am - 1 pm

Come visit the Port Alberni Farmers’ Market at the old Cherry Creek School. Vendors have homemade crafts, homegrown fruits and vegetables, and plenty of baked goods. (Event Information)

OK, DOPE Stand-Up Comedy

Everyone’s favourite annual basketball tournament is back at the high school. Celebrating its 68th year, TOTEM promises great competition between several teams as per tradition. Come down and support your local high school in person or watch the stream online. (Event Information)

Remasters Launch Party / Ravinca / Festival in Store Draft

  • When: January 12, 5:00pm to 6:00pm
  • Where: Card Corner Games & Collectibles (5262 Argyle Street)

Veteran, or new to MTG, Card Corner & Collectibles have you covered with multiple events this evening. These Draft sessions are a perfect way for new and experienced players to come together and explore something new. Instead of arriving with a preplanned deck, players open new packs and build a deck based on the random assortment of cards handed out. Everyone is on the same playing field and gets to check out new cards at the same time. Score! (Event Information)

A Metal New Year

AV Transition Town Monthly Meeting

On the third Wednesday of each month, the AV Transition Town Society meets to discuss practical solutions regarding Climate Change and Peak Oil.
