About Kerrisdale, Vancouver, BC

Located in Vancouver's west side, the Kerrisdale neighbourhood is home to just under 14,000 residents. In 1905, Mrs. MacKinnon named the tram stop "Kerrisdale," a tribute to her old family home in Kerrydale, Scotland. Three years later, in 1908, the neighbourhood merged with the municipality of Point Grey. Because Kerrisdale was the geographical centre of the area on a map, it became the political home of the municipality. Today, Kerrisdale Centennial Park was once the original City Hall, which held the Council Chamber, municipal offices, a police court, and a jail with only two cells.

Until 1912, a general store, post office, hardware store, and real estate office were located in Kerrisdale. After that, a road was developed that passed through 41st Avenue, giving residents access to the developing commercial area and businesses. Kerrisdale school began as a two-room building in 1908, and today it is one of the city's most prominent schools. Eventually, the entire Point Grey area, including Kerrisdale, merged with Vancouver in 1929. Kerrisdale is a lovely place to reside and is considered one of Vancouver's most charming neighbourhoods.

Real Estate in Kerrisdale

Kerrisdale is a beautiful neighbourhood to live in, with large homes on tree-lined streets. It is set apart from some of Vancouver's other more popular areas because it is not necessarily "trendy." It possesses a classic, timeless, and elegant taste that serves its community well. Many of the early settlers in Kerrisdale were drawn to the semi-rural setting the area possessed.

Many of the original architectural styles and designs remain among the houses in the neighbourhood, including English Arts and Crafts, Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, and the Beaux Art. The area possesses all sorts of homes, including classic detached family homes to mansions, most of which are in the upper price range. There are also many options for high and low-rise apartment buildings.

There are several schools in the area, making Kerrisdale a popular location for growing families. The homes and apartment buildings are within close walking distance to shops and restaurants, making it an excellent place for both students and seniors. Kerrisdale is known as one of Vancouver's most pleasant neighbourhoods, which is why there are so many long-term residents that live there, and residents who move to Kerrisdale stay in Kerrisdale.

Things to Do in Kerrisdale

Choosing to relocate to Kerrisdale means you are choosing a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood. One of the area's selling features is that it's a cozy neighborhood but is still near all Vancouver's offers. The phrase "shop 'till you drop" has never applied to a neighbourhood more. Kerrisdale Village is the main shopping area in the community and is home to over 200 shops. No matter your age or income, Kerrisdale has a shop for you. One notable mention for new residents is Buchan's Kerrisdale Stationery, a local gift shop that has been in business for over 55 years. There is also an old book and gift store worth checking out called Hagar Books, which opened its doors in 1974. Check out one of the many restaurants and dining services the area offers after a full day of shopping.

If you're feeling like a Saturday morning stroll, Fraser River Park has a beautiful and well-kept pathway through the trees. McCleery Golf Course will present you with excellent amenities and a beautiful course for your game. Afterward, make sure to stop at the lodge for a bite to eat! Some of Kerrisdale's most famous coffee shops and cafes include Bean Brothers and Adonia Teahouse. Kerrisdale loves to treat its community with different free events all year round! Kerrisdale village hosts "Holiday Horse & Carriage Rides," live bands, and ice skating during the Christmas season. Summer nights bring free movies in the park, and if you've ever been to the Kerrisdale area, you may have seen the infamous clock at West 41st Avenue. During the summer, lovely music events happen here "under the clock" at 41st Ave. The neighbourhood is not far from great attractions, such as Granville Island, Stanley Park, and Kitsilano Beach. The bus and train systems are mapped out well to reach your destination in a timely manner. This charming community has it all.
