Real Estate in Quilchena

Within the area are three unique and distinct neighbourhoods. The first neighbourhood is situated around the development of the famous Arbutus Shopping Centre. Arbutus Village was built in the 1960s, and the neighbourhood surrounding it soon followed. Most of the buildings around this area are multi-family units or mid/low-rise rental units. Most of the residents that live in this area are older since there are nice, smaller rental units for them to rent, and they are still close to all the amenities of the shopping centre. That being said, this area also boasts many townhomes and high-rise complexes to attract younger students and/or professionals looking for a quiet neighbourhood close to UBC.

The second neighbourhood borders on and around Shaughnessy. This neighbourhood of Quilchena is found going right through the prestigious area of Shaughnessy, so many of the homes surrounding it are premium, large estate homes. This area is elegant and charming, and most homes sit in the upper price range.

The last neighbourhood is the neighbourhood that surrounds Prince Wales Secondary School. Many of the homes around here can be expected to encompass a school zone – single-family dwellings with nice backyards and many families around. This area is known for the views of the mountains and water. Because of the diversity of housing, Quilchena is a desirable neighbourhood for many populations. The residents do an exceptional job up-keeping the area and preserving its beautiful green spaces.

About Quilchena, Vancouver, BC

Located deep in the Vancouver area of the Lower Mainland, Quilchena is a quaint neighbourhood home to just over 5,500 residents. The quality of living here is high thanks to the highly-desired peace and quiet of the neighbourhood. Quilchena is relatively close to the downtown core and UBC, which is great for students or rental suites. The area boasts well-maintained recreation facilities and a long list of amenities.

Quilchena’s northern boundary is found on King Edward Avenue, the western edge being Larch and Puget Drive, and Cypress/Shaughnessy creating the eastern limits. In the early 1900s, what is now considered Quilchena was once seen as a low-lying marsh. Around the 40s/50s, time was spent bringing sand in from False Creek, and following this, houses began to develop all over the area. Visitors can still see how this land was once a marsh, and much of the “park-land” features remain.

Schooling options include Quilchena Elementary, which lies in the southern part of the neighbourhood, and Prince of Wales Secondary, which lies in the northern part of the neighbourhood. Just outside the Quilchena neighbourhood borders is Point Grey Secondary School. If you prefer private education, then the neighbourhood is close to York House, Vancouver College, and Little Flower Academy

Getting to and around the Quilchena neighbourhood is accessible thanks to the major artery of Arbutus Street. This street gives residents access to many different areas of the Lower Mainland, including downtown, the major highways, and the Vancouver International Airport.

Quilchena Park

As said before, the entire Quilchena area has been built around the famous ‘Quilchena Park.’ This park began as 40 acres, owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway. CPR ended up leasing this land to the Quilchena Golf Club, and later when this lease expired, the City ended up purchasing the eastern area (Quilchena Park), while the western area became Prince of Wales Secondary School. This park has developed into a beautiful outdoor recreational area, boasting soccer fields, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a skateboard park, and numerous walking/jogging paths.
