About Kerrisdale, Vancouver, BC

Located in Vancouver's west side, the Kerrisdale neighbourhood is home to just under 14,000 residents. In 1905, Mrs. MacKinnon named the tram stop "Kerrisdale," a tribute to her old family home in Kerrydale, Scotland. Three years later, in 1908, the neighbourhood merged with the municipality of Point Grey. Because Kerrisdale was the geographical centre of the area on a map, it became the political home of the municipality. Today, Kerrisdale Centennial Park was once the original City Hall, which held the Council Chamber, municipal offices, a police court, and a jail with only two cells.

Until 1912, a general store, post office, hardware store, and real estate office were located in Kerrisdale. After that, a road was developed that passed through 41st Avenue, giving residents access to the developing commercial area and businesses. Kerrisdale school began as a two-room building in 1908, and today it is one of the city's most prominent schools. Eventually, the entire Point Grey area, including Kerrisdale, merged with Vancouver in 1929. Kerrisdale is a lovely place to reside and is considered one of Vancouver's most charming neighbourhoods.
