Still, its relative inaccessibility has resulted in it remaining the smallest independent community in the Vancouver area, with a population of just over 600 residents. 

Located on the ocean and with plenty of small islands nearby, it’s a popular starting point for boating and marine activities. Hike to Jug Island Beach Lookout

A popular outdoor adventure in Belcarra is the hike to Jug Island Beach. It’s a relatively simple hike, and it takes a little over two hours round-trip. The trail passes through mossy forested areas and offers excellent views of the ocean below. The trail eventually ends at a fantastic viewpoint of Jug Island—a scenic little round island. Jug Island isn’t accessible for exploration, but it’s pleasant to sit at the beach nearby and watch the seals, eagles, and other wildlife that frequent this location.

The nearest larger community to Belcarra is Port Moody. Residents of Belcarra looking to do some shopping often head to Newport Village in Port Moody.
