About Capilano Valley

Capilano Valley is a community located in North Vancouver, just west of Lonsdale and near the Lions Gate Bridge. It is a small, close-knit neighbourhood with inviting and friendly residents. A wide variety of shops and services are available in every direction along Marine Drive. In the warmer months, the streets are bustling with pedestrians, enjoying all the shops and boutiques. 

The closest shopping centre is located in Edgemont Village. Many visitors and tourists admire the cozy area due to the mid-century modern architecture. In the way of amenities, the shopping centre has over seventy businesses. People love thumbing their way through the gift shop, and there are several other shops, a pet store, a liquor store, and more. The North Vancouver District Public Library is only a few minutes away and offers some entertaining drop-in activities. The TransLink bus routes make travel reasonably straightforward, and Capilano is close to commuter routes. The Lions Gate Hospital is only ten minutes away, and the nearest airport is Vancouver International, just under an hour's drive. 

Trail and parks are not far from residents, and two popular spots are less than ten minutes away. Murdo Fraser Park has fantastic walking and running trails, and Mosquito Creek is popular among runners and dog walkers and offers boat-related services and a place to anchor. 

The community of Capilano belongs to the Handsworth and Carson Graham Catchments. North of Woods Drive belongs to the Handsworth Catchment, with the closest schools being Highlands Elementary and Handsworth Secondary. South of Woods Drive would belong to the Carson Graham Catchment. Here you'll find Capilano Elementary School and Carson Graham Secondary School. The school has various sports teams, and the football, rugby, soccer, and field hockey teams play at Confederation Park in Burnaby. It is only twenty minutes away and has lots of outdoor recreation. Confederation Park also features picnic areas, tennis courts, a skateboard plaza, grass fields, and the children's playground and spray pad areas. You could spend the entire day here with so many activities to do.

Things To Do in Capilano Valley

Capilano River Regional Park is a sight to see and hear. The roaring of the Capilano River, surrounded by the steep canyon walls, makes this a unique place to visit. Tourists and locals enjoy visiting the Capilano Salmon Hatchery, located on the Capilano River, with over 400,000 visitors annually. There are also several trails to hike along with a picnic area.  

Murdo Frazer Golf Course      

Murdo Frazer Golf Course is five minutes away, along Pemberton Ave. The nine-hole course has well-maintained fairways and is an excellent course for all ages or skill levels. There is a chipping area and putting greens, and they offer PGA professional lessons and food and beverages. They also host tournaments throughout the year.  

Grouse Mountain  

Located on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, Grouse Mountain is an iconic destination. It was named by the first hikers to reach the summit in 1894. There are many activities and attractions year-round, with a mountain admission pass, zip lines, helicopter tours, and more. 

The Capilano Suspension Bridge     

The Capilano Suspension Bridge is the longest in the world, measuring 450 feet long and 230 feet high. It was constructed in 1889 and has had millions of visitors since then. The bridge was originally built with hemp and rope but is much stronger today, being replaced with steel cables strong enough to hold a 747 airliner. A shuttle offers transportation to the bridge from downtown as well.
