Real Estate in Cedar Valley

Cedar Valley is a neighbourhood located in Mission’s urban core. Covering about 1,000 acres of land with just over 8,000 residents, it is a quiet area perfect for families of all sizes. Most homes in the neighbourhood are single-family houses, primarily grouped in the southern portion, which is more suburban residential in nature compared to the more rural, forested area in the north. Community amenities such as churches, retail shops and commercial services are also clustered primarily in the southern portion along Cherry Avenue.

Several parks, such as Lightburn Park, Tom Jones Park and Griner Park, are located within the neighbourhood. While strata properties like condos and townhouses are few and far between in Cedar Valley, the Cedar Valley Local Area Plan adopted by the District of Mission in 2018 will aim to provide more variety in housing options within the existing neighbourhood centres.

About Cedar Valley

Originally a farming community, throughout time, Cedar Valley has developed into a suburban residential neighbourhood that continues to grow. The area is bound by Dewdney Trunk Road to the north, Ferndale and Harms Street to the east, Cherry Avenue to the south and Silverdale Creek to the west.

The neighbourhood comprises a generally younger residential population compared to the rest of Mission, with young families turning to Cedar Valley to establish community roots. There are two elementary schools: Edwin S Richards Elementary School and Albert McMahon Elementary School.

Cedar Valley is best accessible by car via Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) and the Abbotsford-Mission Highway (Highway 11).

Although the present-day City Hall is in Cedar Valley, the original City Hall was built on Main Street in 1929. Mission was actually two “cities” at that time: the District of Mission and the Village of Mission. They were not able to elect a Mayor and Council until 1958, when they officially changed from a village to a town, and the two “cities” did not amalgamate until 1969 when they joined to become what is now the District of Mission.

Westminster Abbey

Located at 34224 Dewdney Trunk Road, Westminster Abbey originated in 1939 by five Benedictines from Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. Its current location in Cedar Valley was established on Christmas Eve of 1954, having obtained the “abbey” status the year beforehand. The guesthouse and gymnasium-auditorium were completed in 1971 and 1977, respectively.

Today, visitors are welcome to visit this historic landmark. The Abbey Church is open seven days a week, with visitors being requested to observe total silence while there. The Abbey’s Gardens and Paths are also open for visitors. Check here for specific operating hours. Limited reservations are available (at least one week’s notice required) for guests wishing to stay in the guesthouse overnight.

There is an 18-hole par 3 golf course, a driving range, and a 10,000 sq.ft. practice facility that includes a chipping and putting green and a bunker for practicing sand shots. At $4.50 for a small bucket at the driving range and a $21 rate (weekdays) for the course, it is an affordable option for any golfer. The Ridge Grill on-site offers casual fare for visitors, such as burgers and sandwiches. Are you looking for something a little fancier? Cedar Ridge also serves as a scenic wedding location!
