It is a reasonably low-density suburb with a golf course nestled into the beautiful winding streets. The Westwood Plateau Golf course hosts weddings and golf tournaments and is touted for its local, community-led focus. This community has over 25 km of hiking trails and many more trails nearby. One popular trail is the Crystal Falls hike in the Pinecone Burke Provincial Park. Crystal Falls is an easy hike, accessible for everyone, and is familiar with dog walkers and mountain bikers. There is an extensive trail network to the Northwest of Westwood Plateau that expands well beyond the neighborhood's borders.
In terms of transit, this community is roughly a 10 min drive from the closest SkyTrain and is serviced by various bus routes through Translink. This neighbourhood is highly pedestrian-friendly in terms of sidewalks. However, Westwood Plateau is on a substantial hill, sloping up towards Coquitlam Mountain. Crystal Falls
This stunning hike has multiple routes following the Prichett Creek and Coquitlam. It is close to Upper Coquitlam Park and is part of the trail system in Pinecone Burke Provincial Park. Perfect for a family day outing and is dog friendly. Parking can be limited as the entrance to the hike is residential. The main trail takes roughly 45-60 mins one way, making for 2 hours total. There are lower walking routes for a more leisurely stroll and more challenging uphill routes for those feeling more adventurous. Either way, experience the stunning views and crisp air that the Lower Mainland is known for!
Westwood Plateau Golf
This golf course was established in 1995 after the beginning of the development of Westwood Plateau. This public golf course spanning 27 holes is community-focused. It includes a Golf Academy, a par 31 course, a longer length learning course. This golf course was named Best New Course in Canada in 1995. The courses enjoy panoramic views overlooking Coquitlam. Also a venue for weddings; it includes three private banquet rooms. There are also two different restaurants - that even offer an online order option.
Coquitlam Crunch
This mini grouse grind course cuts through the heart of the Westwood Plateau. The hike starts in City Centre and winds its way up the hill. This hike has made its way into the local's routines, with some people doing this hike daily! This well-kept community trail also has a community garden and a little lending library (take a book, leave a book). This hike takes around 35 minutes to finish and is relatively vertical. This lovely hike is the epitome of west coast living!
Ridge Park
This trail features a 4.5 dog-friendly km loop. Ridge Park is an off-leash trail accessible year-round and is rated as moderate. The hike includes lookouts and many entrance/exit points and is centred very residentially, so realistically walking from home instead of driving is possible! This hike is away from all the hustle and bustle, with friendly locals, and is the go-to community place to walk dogs.
