The most popular type of home being built in Sardis is a detached home. Detached homes in Sardis are the typical Metro Vancouver suburban single-family homes that are not attached to any other homes. These houses are usually built on their own lot and have a yard. They come in various sizes, from small starter homes to large luxury homes.

The majority of the homes in this area are low-density. However, there are some newer townhome and apartment developments, particularly when you get closer to some of the prominent commercial areas. Sardis has a combination of new and old developments. Typically older homes are more spaced out, whereas (particularly when viewed from above), the newer developments are more condensed.

There is a wide range of home prices in Sardis, from relatively affordable options to high-end luxury homes. Sardis is typically the home of young families due to its proximity to schools. However, there are plenty of older individuals living in the area.

Newer developments in Sardis feature a variety of new construction homes. These homes are designed with contemporary living in mind and are perfect for families or empty nesters. The more recent developments typically offer additional garage space and bonus rooms if you're looking for more space. For those looking for an older home, Sardis has a variety of options. Many of the homes in this neighbourhood were built in the 1970s and 1980s and have a traditional feel. These homes typically have larger yards, and some even have swimming pools.

If you're looking for a bit of history, Sardis is also home to several heritage homes. These homes are often larger and more ornate than the newer homes in the neighbourhood and are a true piece of Chilliwack history. No matter what you're looking for, Sardis has something to offer. This neighbourhood is perfect for families, empty nesters, and everyone in between.

About Sardis

Sardis is a community located in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia, Canada. The population of Sardis is approximately 17,000 people. The Sardis community is situated on the banks of the Fraser River and is surrounded by mountains. It is directly south of the central city of Chilliwack. Sardis has a long and rich history, dating back to when the community was initially inhabited by the Sto:lo First Nations people.

The first European settlers came in the early 1800s, and the community was officially founded in 1858. Sardis grew rapidly during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush and became an important stop on the Cariboo Wagon Road. Today, Sardis is a vibrant and thriving community. The town centre is home to a variety of shops and businesses, and there are many parks and recreation facilities in the area. Sardis is also home to several unique events and festivals, including the Sardis Street Market.

Sardis is one of the more developed neighbourhoods in Chilliwack compared to more rural communities such as Promontory. As such, one can expect the standard recreational activities available in a small or medium-sized suburb. Schools, parks, grocery stores, bars, and other service businesses are dotted among the suburban cul-de-sacs.

Sardis is also the home of the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary! This area is surrounded by numerous farm areas and some small golf courses offering additional relaxation areas.

Things to Do in Sardis

Visit the Sardis Park

The Sardis Park is great for taking a walk, having a picnic, or just relaxing. In 1971, Chilliwack repurposed this old gravel pit, measuring 5 hectares (12.28 acres), and included it in its park system. Visitors can enjoy the relaxing views and sceneries of the pond while strolling along the 655-meter trail that encircles the water. In the past, the pond at Sardis Park was stocked with trout, which attracted both novice and experienced fishermen. On any summer day, a typical scene was a grandfather teaching their grandchildren how to fish. The proximity to the urban area also made it popular for swimmers who lived in the adjacent neighbourhoods. Compared to Vancouver, Chilliwack typically is much hotter in the summer and colder in the winter, and during the sweltering evenings and weekends, park usage would soar.

Unfortunately, the pond's chemistry has altered over time due to a process known as eutrophication, making it unfit for swimming and unappealing for fish. Today, playgrounds, picnic tables, and a pond walk are now available at this community park. Perhaps the government may invest in making the park usable in the future!

Shop at the Sardis Eco Market

The Sardis eco market is great for buying fresh produce, meats, and cheeses. There are also several vendors selling crafts and other handmade items. The eco market is open from May to October. The eco market was established in 2011, focusing on supporting eco-education and displaying local artists and farmers.

Since then, the modest market has evolved into a movement, delivering regionally produced sustainable goods and services conveniently located for Sardis residents. Before this farmers’ market was opened, many farmers in the Chilliwack community would travel to the more urban areas to sell their products in Vancouver's farmer's markets, leaving true local consumers without an opportunity to purchase goods regularly. Since opening, the market has expanded from only 8 merchants to one with over 30 casual and seasonal vendors!

Visit the Chilliwack Heritage Park

With a 150,000 square-foot structure, the Chilliwack Heritage Park (which includes a 65-acre park) hosts a wide range of events, including trade exhibits, conventions, agricultural and equestrian events, athletic contests, dog shows, arena cross, BMX, and much more. A 10-acre field is available for outdoor events, and there is also room for camping, a rodeo arena, and two outdoor sand rings. There are external lights in every venue.

Hundreds of thousands of people have come to Chilliwack and attended special events at Chilliwack Heritage Park since it opened in 2001. Travellers from all over are drawn to this crimson structure and gardens because of its remarkable appearance. Depending on the time of year, the events on display vary from entertaining to practical, so check the schedule available here to see what interests you.
