Just off Promontory Road, several winding suburban streets meander through a selection of recent, contemporary homes ideal for raising a family. Although the suburb is well developed, the proximity to nature gives a sense of a countryside village hidden up in the hills, surrounded by farms, woodlands and an abundance of wildflowers and trees. The neighbourhood retail centre supplies the essential basics and groceries, and several small businesses offer services to this community.

With the price of a home here still about half of what a home costs in Metro Vancouver, residents can afford a relatively affluent middle-class lifestyle. 94% of the residents here are owners, and the homes are almost all detached single-family properties. The original plan calls for 'medium density' - a combination of apartments and townhouses, but the actual development and the updated plan indicate that the land has been zoned and developed as low-density single-family residential.

Expect to see large back and front yards, multi-car garages, carports, and larger homes with at least three bedrooms. Unlike an average suburb with zero amenities, this master-planned community created locations for business and community activities, including schools and parks. The streetscape and urban design was considered, with access to hiking routes, a strong road network, and storefronts. The neighbourhood-oriented community offers modern suburban homes along cul-de-sacs, most of which were built after 2001.

About Promontory

To the east of Vedder, in close proximity, lies Promontory. Promontory is a recently created neighbourhood that was founded in 1992. Its developments, which feature single-family homes and townhouses, are renowned for being very family-friendly. Promontory has experienced the most significant expansion among Chilliwack's Southern Hillside neighbourhoods. It is bordered on the southwest side by the Vedder River, as this neighbourhood lies in the Fraser Valley floodplain. This access to the River offers a variety of recreational activities and is particularly well-liked for kayaking and fishing. If you seek other outdoor activities, you might enjoy hiking and bicycling up the hill, thanks to the well-developed trails and bike routes.

Promontory Elementary's high enrollment of approximately 600 kids demonstrates the abundance of young families that call Promontory home. Single-family houses in Chilliwack are also reasonably priced, which appeals to people who want space to expand and a yard for the kids to play in.

Promontory is a well-connected suburb that offers many opportunities for families to socialize at the area's playgrounds and parks. The Promontory Community School Association offers recreation activities for all ages. As commuters pick up pizza and last-minute supper fixings on their way up the hill, the retail centre becomes an evening hotspot.

Things to do in Promontory

Promontory is unusual in that it offers more amenities than the average suburban neighbourhood, which is typically divorced from any sort of offerings beyond individual homes. Regardless, most of the true interesting activities lie beyond the border of this neighbourhood.

Visit Cultus Lake and the Adventure Park

Cultus Lake is a stunning lake in the middle of an expansive Provincial Park. The lake, which is close to Yarrow and is surrounded by mountains and forests, is an excellent location for water sports - jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, canoeing, and fishing are just a few of the possibilities.

While in the area enjoying the lake, it could be worthwhile to check out the Cultus Lake Adventure Park. The park is divided into two sections: a water park and an adventure park, making it a fantastic spot for families to have a fun-filled day. Both provide a range of activities, such as a climbing wall, a zip line, and a water slide. A quaint beach area offers an opportunity to unwind and enjoy the scenery.

Spend an Evening Out in Downtown Chilliwack

The park's 484-meter peak, which offers stunning views of Promontory and Cultus Lake, is part of a 70-hectare wooded area. Mount Thom offers trail running for those seeking to raise their heartbeat and horseback riding areas for the equestrian inclined.
