About Diver Lake, Nanaimo, BC

Nanaimo is a spacious city with a range of neighbourhood types, from convenient and well-equipped neighbourhoods in the central and northern portions of Nanaimo to the more established and historical areas in the downtown area. In the neighbourhoods at the northern and southernmost points of Nanaimo, you’ll find large, rural properties that offer residents a laid-back pace of life.

One Nanaimo neighbourhood that offers an excellent blend of convenience and livability is Diver Lake, near shopping centres and parks. The neighbourhood is situated near the shores of Diver Lake, which also features a popular park with residents.

Diver Lake is known for being one of Nanaimo’s more affordable, family-friendly neighbourhoods and is close both to shopping centres and some of Nanaimo’s top recreation facilities. Both the Nanaimo Parkway and the Island Highway run through the Diver Lake area, making accessing the rest of Nanaimo and other destinations on Vancouver Island a breeze. The drive from Diver Lake to Nanaimo’s downtown core takes around ten minutes along Bowen Road when traffic is light.

Diver Lake’s status as one of Nanaimo’s top neighbourhoods for families is bolstered by its proximity to some of Nanaimo’s best park areas, including Ammonite Falls, Long Lake, Rutherford Ridge, and of course Diver Lake itself. Diver Lake has a range of impressive real estate opportunities for first-time homebuyers and seasoned real estate investors alike and is an up-and-coming neighbourhood.

Real Estate in Diver Lake

The Diver Lake area has historical ties to Nanaimo’s coal mining history, and mining activity was present in the area until the 1930s. The area was largely rural in the following decades, but developments began to emerge in the 1960s. Diver Lake was primarily established in the 1970s, and many of the available real estate options you’ll find were built during that decade. One popular housing style in Diver Lake is affordable ranchers situated on large lots. These properties could appeal to young families, who are sure to appreciate the peacefulness and proximity to schools that this neighbourhood offers.

In Diver Lake, you’ll also find split-level homes built in the ‘70s and ‘80s that offer plenty of living space and the potential for income-producing rental properties and mortgage helper suites. Many of the available properties in Diver Lake have undergone updates over the years, meaning they offer the relative affordability typical of homes that are a handful of decades-old while also possessing modern design choices.

Diver Lake has grown in popularity as a neighbourhood for real estate investments over the past few years. Still, the average home price remains more affordable than some of Nanaimo’s most expensive neighbourhoods. In addition to the availability of older homes in the area, you’ll also find newer developments of large family homes built in the last decade or so.

Slightly to the north of Diver Lake—just on the other side of the Island Highway—is the slightly larger Long Lake, with several impressive real estate options on offer. Near the shores of Long Lake, you’ll find beautiful, airy condos on the rocky ridge along the lake. These properties offer sunny living spaces and ideal patio areas for summertime hosting. In Diver Lake near Jingle Pot Road, there are large family homes built in the early 2000s. These homes often have large yards that feature plenty of room for gardens and auxiliary structures, including sheds, workshops, and garages.

In the Diver Lake area, you’ll also find contemporary condo buildings that offer an accessible entry point to Nanaimo’s real estate market. For young professionals, retirees, or real estate investors looking for long-term rental properties or BnBs, condo buildings like Songbird Place offer spacious units with open concept design and modern features.
