The neighbourhood of Mount Douglas (or Mount Doug, as locals know it), is a community in the Saanich district of Victoria, British Columbia, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Canada.
This area has easily accessible bus routes and shelters, allowing residents to get around quickly and run errands without owning a vehicle. Buses from Saanich East run throughout the Capital Regional District (CRD) and all of Greater Victoria and Western Communities. The Victoria International Airport and the BC Ferries Swartz Bay terminal are under a half-hour drive away. You can access the Harbour Air seaplanes heading to Vancouver and beyond and the Blackball ferry to Port Angeles, USA, from the downtown inner harbour.

Participate or Volunteer at the Saanich Cycling Festival
The Saanich Cycling Festival is a family-friendly event that occurs annually on the first Sunday of May. It is a free event, like a scavenger hunt, with “Celebration Stations” set up throughout the community. Each participant will get a map of their route, with each station providing a unique stamp that participants can collect to fill their card. Once the card is filled, they can enter to win one of several prizes offered at the end of the event. This event is tailored to each person’s age and ability, so everybody has the chance to win a prize.
The Saanich Cycling Festival encourages all Saanich residents to get to know their neighbourhood more intimately and explore the outdoors. At the end of the experience, there are numerous family activities offered in the parking lot of Saanich Hall (on Vernon Ave), including bouncy castles, food, live music, and displays related to cycling.
Go to Mount Douglas Park
Mount Douglas Park is one of the better-known parks in Greater Victoria due to its immense size and all it has to offer residents of the city, including those who live in the Mount Douglas neighbourhood. It is 188 hectares of urban forest, with 21 kilometres of forest trails to hike, rated from green (easy) to black (difficult).
In the park, there is a multi-use field for sports and activities, parking, picnic areas, a playground, and washrooms open year-round. Mountain bikers enjoy the park, and trails range from challenging hikes up to the summit to easy, low-grade trails. You can even drive to the summit when the park road is open via Churchill Drive, although this road is only open from noon to 10 pm to promote active living and a peaceful environment in the mornings. Visit the sandy beach to enjoy the ocean breeze and marine life (seals, orca, waterfowl), enjoy the lizards, birds, and other wildlife amongst the rocks and trees, and see panoramic views overlooking the city of Victoria from the summit of Mount Douglas. Horseback riding and leashed dogs are allowed in the park, except in the beach and playground areas and where protected nesting sites are marked.
