About Gordon Head 

Gordon Head is a large, bustling, seaside neighbourhood found in the Saanich East municipality of Victoria, on Vancouver Island. Located east of the Blenkinsop Valley and north of Mackenzie Avenue, Gordon Head is adjacent to the Cadboro Bay neighbourhood and is an 18-minute drive to the downtown Victoria core. 

Gordon Head has 28 parks, several of which feature beach access. Shopping centres include University Heights, Torquay Village, and Tuscany Village. All amenities one could need throughout Gordon Head include gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, medical clinics, dentists, pharmacies, entertainment venues, and more is within reach. 

A pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood, this area has implemented “pedestrian shortcuts,” which can be found here. This allows students and other foot-powered commuters to bypass busy intersections and noisy thoroughfares for a more pleasant walking experience.

Enjoy Nature in Mount Douglas Park

Gordon Head is home to pockets of diverse ecosystems, including Garry Oak meadows, marine areas, coastal bluffs, and Douglas Fir forests. At 450 acres, Mount Douglas Park is the largest park in Saanich. Residents frequent this park for its 360-degree views of the city, sea, and distant Mount Baker. 

Picnicking, bird watching, and Plein-air painting are common activities in this park, as are visiting the playground and beach areas. Animals common to the area include lizards and waterfowl, and you may even catch a glimpse of seals or orcas in the water. 

Trails in this park have well-marked difficulty ratings, so those seeking easy-access routes will have an easy time deciding where to go, as will experienced hikers. This park has many parking lots, including one at the top of Churchill Drive, so you may drive to the summit if you wish during the afternoons. 

Workout at Gordon Head Recreation Centre

The Gordon Head Recreation Centre (GHRC) has a pool with recent updates that include UV pool filtration added to the traditional chlorine-based system, solar-powered showers, and more. You can swim, enjoy the sauna and the steam room, or lift weights in the gym. There is a dance and fitness studio and a skateboard/rollerblade park in this facility.
