Things to Do in Cadboro Bay
Visit Gyro Park and its Sandy Beach
Cadboro Bay, the community next to Arbutus, has a nearby public park called Gyro Park, featuring sandy beaches, a picnic and play area, tennis courts, and a boat launch. This park is a popular destination in the summer months for families and sunbathers, with plenty of parking, public washrooms, a seasonal wheelchair-accessible beach ramp, a zip-line, and a beach-themed playground that includes a giant sea serpent, salmon, and octopus play sculptures. Go to the Cadboro Bay Festival in August
The Cadboro Bay Festival is an annual day of fun on the beach in Gyro Park with plenty of children's activities, including arts and crafts, live music, bouncy castles, and food vendors.
At this festival, world-class sand sculptors operating under the collective name "Sand Boxers sculpting team" create incredible, giant displays before your eyes using only sand and water, following a theme such as "mythic creatures" or "island life." Admission is free, and this event usually sees between 3,000 and 4,000 attendees, making it a lively, fun way to spend the day on the beach.
Join the Cadboro Bay Dead Boats Society
The Cadboro Bay Dead Boats Society is a group of residents of this neighbourhood who are dedicated to keeping derelict boats off the community's beaches. Before this group was created by the Cadboro Bay Residents Association (CBRA) in 2017, the beach was cluttered with abandoned boats and even a burned hull of a houseboat, spurring a massive cleanup. Today, the association is available year-round to assist those who need help dealing with wrecks and vessels of concern, ensuring the area remains pristine, safe, and welcoming.
Other committees run by the CBRA include the Developments Committee, the Communications and Membership Committees, and the General Administration, all of which are open to CBRA members.
