Real Estate in Arrowview Heights

Some of Port Alberni's most luxurious custom homes are in Arrowview Heights. This area is dominated by residential real estate listings of the highest calibre. Several executive-style homes, complete with high-tech features and immaculately landscaped yards, are easily found. However, there are a few older homes with their own advantages in this area, too.

Later developments have focused on building higher-end single-family homes, usually as two-storey or rancher builds. These homes have less yard space than some older properties, making them more manageable for retirees. Often, the front yards are landscaped with privacy hedges and a minimal design meant for low maintenance. The most common architectural design choice for these homes is in the craftsman style with two-car garages. Several of these homes can be found on Waterfern Drive, for example.

Other real estate listings for older homes, such as ranchers and split-level houses, are also found in Arrowview Heights. As they lack modern, custom builds, they are a more affordable real estate option for the neighbourhood. These homes usually have architectural styles such as mid-century modern, craftsman, and Colonial. These older homes also tend to have larger plots, providing a large front and backyard for residents. A few properties also contain acreage, so you find the occasional hobby farm on the edges of town.

About Arrowview Heights

Arrowview Heights is a residential neighbourhood within Port Alberni, BC, located on the eastern side of the town. Referred to as "Upper Burde" by locals, Arrowview Heights contains a perfect mix of nature and accessibility to nearby shopping options. The area is bordered on most sides by thick forest, giving the illusion of being far out in the countryside. In reality, the nearest shopping district is only about a two-minute drive down the hill to 10th Avenue, containing shops such as grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

This area has been around for a while but has recently experienced a mini-construction boom for residential housing. The development of newer subdivisions like Waterfern Drive and Fernwood Lane has introduced several newly built, high-end homes. There are virtually no commercial real estate listings in this area, just a rare home business from time to time.

Retirees and families with children appreciate Arrowview Heights' quiet streets, easy access to shopping and health facilities (including West Coast General Hospital), and surrounding natural beauty. It is a safer neighbourhood that isn't too out of the way of the rest of town, making it easy to run errands, go on strolls, and eat in nearby restaurants.

Hike the Trails

The abundance of nature means that simply walking down the street can feel like you are out in the country. The popular Log Train Trail and Beaver Pond Trails are connected to this area, allowing residents to walk through serene forests and admire local flora and fauna like beavers, eagles, and Douglas Fir trees. The paths are flat and wide, making them accessible to a broader range of abilities.

The Log Train Trail is a long, 25 km trail that spans Port Alberni out towards Beaver Creek. It has several entrance points, making it an ideal trail for those who aren't sure how long they feel like committing to their stroll. It ends in Arrowview Heights, making this part of the trail less busy than areas farther along. Families and children enjoy the convenience of leisurely bicycle rides along the path, as the distance home from the trailhead is only steps away.

Go Bird Watching

Walking through the forest is serene, but that isn't the only thing you can do. The natural west coast habitat is perfect for bird watching. Locals enjoy casually strolling through the trails with a pair of binoculars as they search for island birds like ducks, Belted Kingfishers, Blue Herons, Hooded Mergansers, Buffleheads, Lesser Scaups, and the occasional Bald Eagle. As a bonus, you may also see a dutiful beaver attending its dam along with a paddling of ducks. Some parts of the year also delight visitors with blooming Yellow Flag Irises, giving even more reason to get out and enjoy the fresh air.
