About Campbellton
Campbellton, British Columbia, is a “river village” neighbourhood of Campbell River, BC, located west of the downtown core, on the banks of the Campbell River on Vancouver Island, Canada. It is accessible via an inland highway and the lower island highway (scenic route), connecting to other Vancouver Island communities. Campbellton has an oceanic climate with mild and warm summers and arctic bursts in the winter, bringing below-freezing temperatures and the occasional snowfall.
An up-and-coming community with lots of growth potential and charm, this neighbourhood has an interesting history. It used to be an industrial area that was run-down and bleak, filled with dilapidated buildings. In 2011, residents decided to take it back, working with Vancouver Island University and the newly founded Campbellton Neighbourhood Association (CNA) to create a modernized, safe, and beautiful community.
Campbellton has shifted its outlook toward growth, development, and charm, creating forest trails, community gardens, and beautifying the streets. Campbellton even created a new mascot, the Campbellton Bear.
The neighbourhood association is a group of business owners and residents who work on issues like graffiti removal, charity events, and safety improvements. Some ongoing projects include improving riverfront access, cleanliness, environmental stewardship, landscaping and greenspace developments, upgrades to lighting throughout the neighbourhood and encouraging art and vibrancy back into the community.
Campbellton is located a few minutes' drive from the city center of Campbell River, where you can find all services and amenities you may need, including grocery stores, gas stations, recreation facilities, a BC Ferries route to nearby Quadra Island, and even the Campbell River Airport (YBL).
Services like police and fire departments and regular garbage and recycling pickup are available to all residents, as is a close connection to nature, as you are minutes away from cycling and hiking trails, sports and leisure activities, and the Campbellton Community Garden.
Schools in the area are administered by School District 72 and Campbell River Christian School, which serves grades K to 12. There is one francophone school in the area, the école Mer-et-Montagne. For post-secondary education, North Island College has a Campbell River Campus.
