Foothills is a beautiful neighbourhood with nature at your door and views of three of the most spectacular lakes: Kalamalka, Okanagan and Swan Lake.
Historically the Foothills area was referred to as "Jackass Mountain." However, most Vernon residents now know the popular area as the Foothills. The area still has an abundance of wildlife, especially near the top of the knoll, where there has been no real estate development. The Foothills was a popular area for horseback riding in the 1980s along the BX Creek trailhead, but it has been developed progressively throughout the years and is known as Star Road in the Foothills community.
The Foothills is minutes from Vernon's honourable schools, including BX School, The Vernon Christian School, École Beairsto Elementary, and Seaton High School.

Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre
Near Vernons North & South BX neighbourhood, Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre is home to a world-class cross-country ski resort. The Nordic centre is a half-hour drive northeast of Vernon towards Silver Star Mountain. At 1,660 meters in elevation and over 50 km of groomed trails, Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre is the place to be for avid winter enthusiasts. Sovereign Lake even hosts events and competitions, including BC Junior Biathlon and offers lessons.
Silver Star Foothills Trail
This is a relatively simple hike, with some moderate areas where you can access the Grey Canal Trail. Enjoy the hobby farmyards with horses, llamas, and pigeons as you pass above them on the trail. Across Silver Star Rd, to the east, is a connecting trail that takes you to the bottom of the BX Creek Trail.
BX Creek and Falls Trail
The BX Falls is an exciting hike of roughly 3 km and typically takes two hours to complete. Going off the trail, enjoying the streaming creek, climbing over the logs and around the trees is not difficult. The falls themselves are at the bottom of steps, and the reward of dipping your toes in the cool water is worth well worth it. Located 13 minutes drive northeast of Vernon along Silver Star Road, this is an excellent activity for a hot Okanagan day.
