Things to Do in McKinley Landing
Apple Triathlon
Getting its name from the region’s signature fruit, the Apple Triathlon is an annual race with swimming, cycling, and running along a course that follows the flat shoreline of Lake Okanagan, acting as a fun challenge for locals, as well as the qualifying race for the Grand Final World Championships. The course is a 1.5k swim, a 37.2km bike ride, and a 10km run. For a shorter version of the race, enter the Sprint, which is approximately half of the whole triathlon, with a 750m swim, an 18.6km bike ride, and a 5km run.
If you have never done a triathlon before and are worried about the swimming portion but want to give it a go, you can enter the Try-A-Tri race, a short “super sprint” course that is a 300m swim, an 8.5km bike ride, a 1.7km run. Kids, youth, and junior races are also open to younger athletes.
Rock The Lake
Rock the Lake is a three-day classic rock festival at Prospera Place every summer, just minutes from downtown Kelowna and Okanagan Lake. You can purchase a three-day or a single-day pass and enjoy a wide variety of rock music bands, food trucks and vendors.
