Most homes were built between the 1960s and 1970s when there was a large boom in construction. However, newer construction is present throughout Westsyde. Homes have up to four bedrooms, lush green yards, and some offer outdoor pools. Bareland strata developments, single-family homes, acreage and farms are other real estate types available. There are riverfront properties peppered against the hill, and many homes have adequate privacy. If you want to size up or down, this is a great community to plant roots.

About Westsyde

Westsyde, like many of the communities in Kamloops, has that small town feeling, with everything you would get from the city life. Only fifteen minutes from the city centre, it sits on the West side of the North Thompson River. Westsyde is a reasonably large community with about 8,500 residents and is popular among families and individuals who like to stay active in the outdoors. 

There are many parks and green spaces to enjoy, including one of the most popular, Centennial Park, and spots for hiking, dirt biking, four-wheeling, and other recreational activities. There is also a lovely pool to take advantage of on those scorching summer days. The Westsyde Pool and Community Centre offer a pool, hot tubs and a fitness facility. The centre is adored by residents, especially since being renovated in 2017.

There are bus stops posted conveniently near residents, but the bus routes are not frequent, so driving is your best bet for travelling in Westsyde. Travelling by foot is not the best option either, as amenities, parks, and schools are not within reasonable walking distance. Ample parking can be found through Westsyde, and getting to the main highways is convenient. In the neighbourhood, you'll find a large grocery store and dollar store, along with a couple of restaurants, pubs, and liquor stores. Westsyde is conveniently located only fifteen minutes from the airport for air travel. 

Students in Westsyde can attend schools in the area, including Westsyde Elementary, Arthur Stevenson Elementary or David Thompson Elementary. High school students attend Westsyde Secondary School or Norkam Secondary School, which offers a Trades and Technology program through Thompson Rivers University. On the North Side of Kamloops, there are a few private schools to choose from, including Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Kamloops Christian School and École Collines-D’Or. There is also Bert Edwards School of Technology that caters to the larger scientific community.

Things To Do in Westsyde

Residents love living only ten minutes from The Lac Du Bois Grasslands Park. The area is a protected nature park that borders Westsyde and Batchelor Heights. It features plenty of hiking and walking trails, fishing and other outdoor recreation. Pets are welcome on a leash, and there are several different access points throughout the neighbourhood.     

The Dunes at Kamloops      

The Dunes at Kamloops is a beautiful golf course just minutes from Westsyde, on Dunes Drive. Measuring nearly 7000 yards in length, this course is catered to all skill levels. The lush fairways and breathtaking scenery make for a beautiful day spent outdoors with a group or solo to practice your swing. There is a practice and learning centre, golf shop, and clubhouse with The Dune’s Restaurant and patio to enjoy a meal after a long day at the green. 

Cliffside Climbing Gym 

Cliffside Climbing Gym is a great way to try a new activity that keeps you fit and active, along with building and maintaining strength. Built in the early 90s, this was one of the first climbing gyms to be established in the province. There are twenty-five ropes with a minimum of fifty routes of all levels, two caves, free weights, and much more. They also offer lessons, along with hosting your next event. 

Kamloops Museum and Archives   

Kamloops Museum and Archives (KMA) was established in 1937, making it one of the oldest museums in BC. Filled with historical artifacts and archives of photographs, maps, journals, and letters, the recorded history of Kamloops and the stories behind the artifacts are on display for anyone to visit. The KMA operates as part of the City of Kamloops, on Tk’emlúps te Secwe?pemc territory.
