About Sun Rivers
The word Kamloops is the translation of the Shuswap word Tk’emlúps, meaning where the rivers meet. The Tk’emlupsemc, “people of the confluence,” called it their home for centuries. The Kamloops Reserve land base was established in 1862 under the direction of Governor James Douglas. Sun Rivers is on the northeastern side of Kamloops, above the South Thompson River and east on Highway 5. It is also built around the Sun Rivers Golf Course, now known as Bighorn Golf Course.
Amenities require you to drive out of Sun Rivers into the neighbouring communities, but there is a restaurant that is part of the Bighorn Golf Course called Bighorn Bar and Grill. If you require grocery or retail stores, it is only a five-minute commute to Aberdeen. Valleyview also has some restaurant options and coffee shops. Downtown is also only a ten-minute drive for many more options for shopping and dining. Travelling by car is the best way to travel in and around this Kamloops neighbourhood.
